Safety
Safety is a constant concern. Patagonia 2009 is a dangerous expedition and we need to minimize risk. Risk becomes manageable through anticipating the possibility of potentially hazardous situations.
Training: Sea-kayak training over 2 years will provide technical skills and physical training.
In such an expedition, psychological wellness is an important consideration – one for which we have been preparing for several years. Through previous sporting experience…
we’ve been successfully exposed to challenging situations which required self-control was a big issue.
Medical support: Yann Rochas, Doctor from Lorient Hospital is following us from the beginning of the adventure. He will be our medical support while we will be on expedition. He will be continuously available for us through satellite phone to advise us on complicated situation.
Communication: We have different tools according to the level of the alert.
Prevention: VHF
To get the radio weather information
Also used to be in touch with the local fishermen who are web organised.
They are the most useful and aware people to keep us up to date on location / site.
Vacation: Satellite phone
It will allow us to be in touch with the French team:
Previously introduced Dr. Yan Rochas.
Kai Salas Rossenbach: PhD in archaeology at Sorbonne University, specialised in Chileans Patagons Indians. He will be able to share with us his knowledge of the area.
Emergency: We will have with us an emergency beacon, which we will only use in a critical emergency situation. This beacon once triggered sends a signal to the CERN allowing rescues team to locate us.
Local authorities: To be allowed to navigate in Chileans Sea we need the authorisation of the local authorities. They have their own safety rules that we will acknowledge, respect and follow.
Joker : Stephane Colman, a well trained alpinist will be earth exploring the same area than us and he will be always reachable by our French team. In case of emergency he will be a perfect intermediate person.
