Against the wind ? Training...
The most common comments about this expedition is: “South to North! Against the main winds?”
But in fact our navigation is not about going against any thing.
We are going from the Cap Horn which we consider to be the essence of untainted nature, to Coyhaique a contemporary urban center where technology and familiar signs of city are to be found.
Our route is about a progression; the physical elements (wind, rain, current, cold) are not against us. They have a role in our reflexion, and will part of our discovery and adventure. South-North is a spontaneous direction for our journey.
We will note that the Alakalufs Indians, were still cruising this way 50 years ago boarding on much rustic crafts. Our seasonal choice is not random as the cold of the winter breaks down the strength of the wind. Cold will be therefore our ally.
Training...
Our sea kayak training program has been designed by Boris Germes (4 French championships, and several serious expeditions), and Guillaume François (sea-kayak tutor). They both follow our progress; and advise us on a regular basis to optimize our training and journey preparation.
We both have navigation experience. Inti is highly experienced in river kayaking, and a qualified sailor man. Alexandre is also a qualified navigator having sailed since he was a child with his parents who were both tutors at the Glénants / GIC.
In addition to this rigorous training, their sailing back ground acts as a solid basis enabling them to go forward building confidence.
